2023 NCAA Tournament scores, schedule: March Madness bracket, game dates, tipoff times, TV channels, locations

5 min read

The most notable thing about Saturday’s schedule for the second round of the NXAA Tournament is that the three No. 1 seeds playing all have big health questions surrounding them. At Kansas, Bill Self won’t be coaching vs. Arkansas after having a medical procedure last week that caused him to miss the Jayhawks’ first-round victory over Howard? At Alabama, how comfortable will SEC Player of the Year Brandon Miller be after having his minutes limited because of a groin injury in the Crimson Tide’s first-round victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi? At Houston, how effective will AAC Player of the Year Marcus Sasser be after removing himself from the Cougars’ first-round win over Northern Kentucky because of, yes, yet another groin injury?

This is not the ideal way to enter the second round.

Regardless, Kansas, Alabama and Houston are all still favored — over Arkansas, Maryland and Auburn, respectively — and thus expected to advance to the Sweet 16. But, for reasons already established, things could get complicated for any or all of them this weekend.

The second round will get underway via a standalone game between San Diego State and Furman, meaning one of them is guaranteed to be the first team to advance to the Sweet 16 of the 2023 NCAA Tournament. That’s wild. What’s also wild is that either Missouri or Princeton, two teams playing later Saturday, is also guaranteed to make the Sweet 16, which is not something anybody could have reasonably anticipated in the preseason (or even as recently as two mornings ago).

The big CBS standalone game? That’s Tennessee-Duke. The Vols are the higher-seeded team but still listed as a 3.5-point underdog — partly because of the recent loss of Zakai Zeigler but also because the Blue Devils are really clicking. They’re on a 10-game winning streak after blowing out Oral Roberts in Thursday’s first round. During this stretch, Duke has been performing like one of the sport’s five best teams, according to BartTorvik.com.
