India reported the biggest jump in new coronavirus cases in six months, driven by Maharashtra, which reported its highest one-day spike since the pandemic started.
81,466 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, according to the health ministry’s update as of 8:00 a.m. That’s the highest daily addition since Oct. 2.
New cases outstripped the 50,356 recoveries, taking India’s active Covid-19 caseload to above the 6-lakh-mark for the first time since Oct. 29.
The daily death toll spiked to 469, the highest single-day addition since Dec. 6.
