3 min read

TODAY: A surface low will move in our direction this weekend that will bring rain to Central Alabama through the afternoon and evening hours today. A few rumbles of thunder may be possible over the extreme southern parts of the area, but no severe weather is expected at all. Temperatures will be no problem today, as highs will be in the lower 50s to the lower 60s.

It will become very breezy tonight and a Wind Advisory has been issued for much of Central Alabama starting at 6 pm tonight and is set to expire at 6 am Sunday morning.

North Alabama is under a Wind Advisory as well starting at 8 pm tonight and ends at 8 am Sunday morning.

SNOW ON SUNDAY?: As this system continues to move through the area on Sunday, colder air will be pulled in with wrap-around moisture on the backside. There will be a changeover to a wintry mix to some snow flurries to snow showers for the extreme northern parts of the area and up into North Alabama. Latest guidance is showing that changeover starting around 10 am, with much of the activity coming to an end during the evening.

For now, only Jackson and DeKalb counties have been placed in a Winter Storm Watch until Sunday night at midnight, but that may change as we get further into the day. Daytime highs will be at 12:01 am, with temperatures slowly falling through the 30s during the day. Some small accumulations may occur in grassy and/or elevated areas, and some travel disruptions on some bridges and overpasses may occur as temperatures will be dropping into the mid to upper 20s over the northern half, and into the lower 30s in the south. Please continue to check the blog and watch ABC 33/40 for the latest updates.

NEXT WEEK: Any icing issues will melt off quickly on Monday underneath plenty of sunshine and highs in the lower 40s to the lower 50s. Skies will be sunny on Tuesday, and it will be a little warmer, reaching the lower to mid-50s for most.

Another cold front will move into the area late on Wednesday that will bring a decent chance of showers for the afternoon through the overnight hours, with all showers out of here before daybreak on Thursday morning. Highs will be in the mid-50s to the mid-60s.

Clouds will hang around for a while on Thursday, while we will be dry, we will also be pretty cool. Highs in the lower 40s to the upper 50s. Skies will be mostly sunny on Friday, with highs in the lower 40s to the lower 50s.
