Our take: With disappointing rewards and a shrunken welcome bonus, the $650 Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant® American Express® Card forces you to use up its benefits to justify the eye-watering annual fee.
Luckily those benefits are pretty rich, ranging from a $300 dining statement credit to Platinum Elite status to one free night each year. Jetset Marriott loyalists should have no trouble getting over $1,000 in value from the card’s benefits each year, but the less hardcore among us should probably stick with a general-purpose travel rewards card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve® instead.
